As if paying full price wasn't enough, it appears some wireless carriers want you to pay for upgrading your smartphone.
AT&T has started charging consumers $20 to add or upgrade a smartphone through its Next program, where users can quickly jump to the latest smartphone if they choose. They will also charge $20 even if you buy your device and bring it on to an AT&T plan.
The move follows something similar from Verizon Wireless, which also started charging $20 for an upgrade fee.
As for other carriers, Sprint also charges upgrade fees for some programs such as iPhone Forever, where users can consistently upgrade to the latest iPhone. T-Mobile is the only carrier without an upgrade fee.
