Babies will soon mount GoPros on their Fisher-Price walkers"

truggling camera maker GoPro has a new idea to boost business: connect its camera to other products. Even those used by the under-five set.

At a press event here, GoPro showcased partnerships with over 35 companies, including car manufacturer BMW and toy-maker Fisher-Price to connect GoPro to products.

For instance, on a new line of Fisher-Price baby walkers, there will be built-in mounts for GoPro cameras to film baby's first steps. With the navigation package on BMW models, you can turn on and off the connected GoPro camera and press record from the dashboard.

GoPro CEO Nick Woodman told USA TODAY that by expanding the GoPro ecosystem to other products, GoPro will become more valuable to consumers. "We'll be more of a presence in their lives," he said.

Woodman says over 100 companies have signed up to work with GoPro in its new developer program that has been quietly in place for over a year. He staged the showcase Thursday, because it was finally ready for the rest of the world, he said.

GoPro first launched as a film camera over ten years, and built a massive following among the action sports crowd with a line of Hero cameras to capture surfing, skiing, motorcycle riding and the like.

But after a smash IPO in 2014 that brought it's market capitalization to $12 billion, sales started to go soft by the end of 2015, after the disappointing release of the latest GoPro, the Hero 4 Sessions camera. GoPro's IPO opened at $24 a share, and Thursday closed at $13.80. The market cap is currently $1.9 billion.

At the end of 2015, GoPro laid off 7% of staff, but investors cheered Wednesday when the company hired former Apple designer Danny Coster to join the firm.

GoPro hasn't released a major new product since June's Sessions camera. Asked about upcoming products, Woodman says GoPro is on track to release a drone with a built-in GoPro and a 360 degree virtual reality camera this year. The new VR camera, targeted to pros, will be sneak peeked at next week's National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas.
